Activities

-Spelling –Dolch Words – Review of words from list 1 to 4

-Sentences – What is a sentence? A group of words which are put together to mean something. It expresses a complete thought. The children rewrote sentences with the correct punctuation and capital letters. They had to unscramble words in sentences and rewrite them making sure they make sense.

-Handwriting Without Tears – Letter ‘p’

Activities

– Partition – How to partition numbers in different ways

– Adding – How can we add three or more numbers? Children learned to use doubles of a number, number pairs to 10 to help them find the answer.

-‘Timed test’ – differentiated test. The children had to find the answer to the addition sentences within a time limit of 5 minutes

Activities

-The children had to think of as many words that can describe dark and light things. In groups, they chose a picture of one of the settings and wrote a story to go with the picture

Activities

– We experimented with a  torch and a hand mirror.  or another type of reflective material. We watched Miss Isabelle’s experiment on video. The children were asked to record the results of their experiment. Which materials were most/least reflective?

Activities

-Shadows. Can anyone show you 
a shadow? How do they think a shadow is made? Do you need the Sun in order to create a shadow?  Each child had an object (toy figure) and a torch. They were asked to make a shadow using their object and the torch. To see if they can make their shadow longer and shorter. Can they explain what is happening?

Activities

Shadows change their length during the day. They also change their direction during the day.

We looked at Miss Isabelle’s experiment of pictures of her own shadow and drawings. The children will take a photo of their own shadow and draw their shadow in their IPC book during different times of the day: in the morning, at lunchtime and in the afternoon.

On Monday we will have a look at each experiment and discuss their findings.

AFTERNOON ACTIVITIES

Monday

-Shared reading time. Reading and comprehension using ‘The hat chat’ Short vowel word families and  ‘Best friends’ – Reading comprehension and fluency passages

Wednesday

-Growth Mindset -Self – love challenge:You are amazing! The children created their own affirmations about themselves and one for a friend

Thursday

-Show and Tell – 5 children showed and talked about their chosen artifact
