We started our new unit about Asia. The children are learning that Asia is a continent and that there are countries within the continent and the countries have cities and towns. This is a difficult concept for three, four and five year olds to understand and some are grasping the idea. At the start of the week, the children were presented with the puzzle map, flags of the countries, photos of landmarks and miniature animals that represent Asia. The children are listening and making a good effort to learn some new songs sung in Mandarin, Japanese, Korean and Indonesian. Mrs. Lia taught them how to count to ten in Mandarin, Japanese and Indonesian. Our cooking project this Friday will be making ‘Es Dawet’ from Indonesia. It is made with rice flour and the children will squeeze the batch of dough into little strings. What a fun and productive week!
