Year 6 Science: Mass vs. Weight
In our recent Science lessons, Year 6 students investigated the specific differences between mass and weight.
To understand this fundamental physics concept, the students conducted a series of practical measuring tasks. They used digital scales to measure the mass of various everyday objects in grams, and spring scales to measure their weight in Newtons. By directly comparing these results, the students learned that whilst mass remains constant, weight is a measure of the pull of gravity.
The class also discussed the concept of weightlessness and how these precise measurements would differ in space. This practical approach helped the students grasp a complex topic clearly and accurately.

The Year 6 Boat Design Challenge! π β΅οΈ
Our Year 6 students have been diving deep into the world of physics and engineering during their Science lessons this week!
The challenge? To design and build their very own boats using aluminium foil. Starting from a flat sheet of foil, the children had to think critically about surface area, water resistance, and buoyancy. They carefully folded and shaped their materials, testing different designs to see which structures would float the best.
It was fantastic to see their problem-solving skills in action, culminating in a brilliant display of their final designs and achievements. We certainly have some future naval architects in the making! π

Cross-Curricular Learning: English meets Science! πΎπ
We have had a fantastic time continuing our phonics learning and reading in Year 2!
This week, we took our learning a step further by combining our English and Science lessons. The children observed images of baby animals and their adult counterparts, then challenged themselves to write descriptive sentences about how the animals have changed as they grow.
This was quite a challenging task for some to think of the right descriptive words and sentence structures. However, they were all incredibly resilient and did a truly great job! We will definitely continue to build on this brilliant learning.π
