Entry Point for IPC Unit - Mission to Mars. Year 5 were starting this unit by preparing to be Mars Space Cadets. Astronaut training requires resilience, adaptability, communication and collaboration so the children had to complete special missions to prepare for Space Camp. Building Lego structures with oven gloves simulated the challenges astronauts face working with high tech equipment and space uniform. The class also discovered the importance of physical fitness by participating in a variety of training activities. They had a lot of fun preparing for their ‘Mission to Mars’

Our teachers and staff completed the Basic Life Support Training last week. The purpose of this training was to provide practical skills in case of a life threatening emergency at school, such as the correct way to give chest compressions and deliver appropriate ventilation. The safety of all members of SES family will always be our priority.

The Year 4 students investigated how the tectonics plates of the Earth's crust move, using crackers to represent the plates and red yoghurt to represent the magma in the mantle.

Year 3 celebrated their learning about dinosaurs by presenting at an assembly. They loved sharing their learning with their friends in primary school and their families.
By speaking clearly to get their ideas and message across to people well, we hope the students gained confidence in public speaking.

The Year 7 students culminated their persuasive writing unit in their English class with a speech competition. Their confidence in delivering a speech to a live audience had grown throughout the unit and the range of topics was inspiring and educational to all who listened to them. Perhaps there are future debaters or politicians sitting amongst them? Well done to all 14 students on their fine efforts.

On 17 February the TFA Intermediate team had a match with Surabaya Soccer Academy. It was a very remarkable session where everyone in the team put out their best efforts. After all, success is no accident, you don't score a goal if you don't take a shot. Let's continue this fervent spirit in our next match as well.
Debate participation promotes problem solving and helps students to build links between words and ideas that make concepts more meaningful.
Students developed innovative thinking skills and oral communication skills as they participated in live debates in the Year 6 English class.

Sharing this warm and joyful moment when our student representatives gave donations to Sekolah Pelita Permai. Surabaya European School donated 25 soccer balls to support Sekolah Pelita Permai PE lessons. We are very glad to know that they can do better in soccer practice because now they have more balls to play with.
Engaging in embroidery can help develop fine motor skills, creativity, and patience, and can lead to the creation of unique and personalized garments, accessories, and decor. The students are learning basic embroidery stitches, such as the backstitch, chain stitch, leaf stitch, rose stitch, and satin stitch. For beginners, we still use patterns or templates to follow. After that, we encourage them to create their own designs.

Experimenting with splashes of colour is always exciting. Check out the wonderful artwork from our students from the ASA Art with Ms. Liza. Year 2 & 3 were making watercolour and oil pastel arts while Year 4 were using watercolours to experiment with greens and browns.

The Year 2 students are learning about electricity in their IPC Entry Point, "It's Shocking' through a plasma ball experiment.
The Plasma ball is a good tool to explain the theory behind the electrical phenomenon and turn it into something concrete that they can observe. Plus, it is fun and cool, thus allowing us to create an engaging learning atmosphere.
Year 5 have been dissecting flowers to help them understand the parts and functions of flowering plants! 😍
Hands on experience is one of powerful teaching methods because it evokes students curiosity and allows them to find the answers by learning from their experience.

Happy 100 days smarter and wiser!
Yesterday marked the 100th day of school and cheers because we passed it with flying colours. We did a lot of fun things to commemorate this big day such as wearing 100 days themed clothes and read 100 pages of books. Let's keep loving our learning journey and be the best version of ourselves!

No, we were not twins, but that would be awesome!
Our students enjoyed twinning moments last Friday as the closing of the Spirit Week. It was really a fun and refreshing week for all of us. Thank you students and teachers who participated wholeheartedly and let their creativity roam free, also a shout out to the Student Council who initiated and organised this event for us.

Last Thursday in the Spirit Week, we gave our backpacks a break and brought our belongings inside anything but backpack. It was fun to see the creativity of our students that was indeed limitless. We saw buckets, shoeboxes, baskets and many other creative examples. Thank you students for taking a part in this event wholeheartedly.
