Alongside their qualifications and experiences, Surabaya European School’s teachers have the qualities needed to support and inspire students in a high performing international school. A calm and structured classroom environment is vital for helping our primary students truly engage with their work.

In Year 2, we actively encourage regular periods of focused, independent study. This practice is designed to help children gradually develop their attention spans and learn how to block out distractions. Mastering the ability to concentrate on a single task from start to finish is a crucial soft skill that will support their educational journey for years to come.

Year 4 Science: Earthquake-Safe Buildings 🏗

Continuing with their topic on natural occurrences, our Year 4 students stepped into the role of structural engineers this week.

To understand how buildings survive earthquakes, the class worked in pairs to construct model towers using toothpicks and modelling clay. Their objective was to design a structure that is both strong and flexible enough to withstand simulated shaking. Through this hands-on challenge, the students learned how real engineers use geometric shapes, like triangles, to create stable foundations.

This practical task is an excellent way to introduce young learners to the basic principles of physics and engineering. Swipe to see our students carefully assembling their designs. 📐
