Our Educators

Alongside their qualifications and experiences, Surabaya European School’s teachers have the qualities needed to support and inspire students in a high performing international school. These include enthusiasm, independence, resilience, adaptability and a sense of humour. From Montessori school, Primary School and Secondary school these characteristics all contribute to the caring, supportive environment and caring community that encourages each students to explore and develop their potential in their own way.

Educating Global Citizens

Our consistent focus for students is on high academic standards, essential life skills and a sense of responsibility to the community all within the framework of a ‘family like’ atmosphere. We also ensure that each student receives the educational support they need while being challenged to extend themselves according to their individual potential.

News and Events

As an international school we pride ourselves on the family atmosphere and culturally diverse community we have created here in Surabaya. We make a conscious effort to hold events that offer our community the opportunity to come together in wide range of sporting, artistic, intellectual and cultural activities. In addition to cultivating a sense of belonging, this allows our students to explore their creativity and imagination and gain confidence in expressing themselves.

Building concentration skills 🎯

A calm and structured classroom environment is vital for helping our primary students truly engage with their work.

In Year 2, we actively encourage regular periods of focused, independent study. This practice is designed to help children gradually develop their attention spans and learn how to block out distractions. Mastering the ability to concentrate on a single task from start to finish is a crucial soft skill that will support their educational journey for years to come.

Brilliant dedication and academic focus shown here by our young student. 👏

Year 4 Science: Earthquake-Safe Buildings 🏗

Continuing with their topic on natural occurrences, our Year 4 students stepped into the role of structural engineers this week.

To understand how buildings survive earthquakes, the class worked in pairs to construct model towers using toothpicks and modelling clay. Their objective was to design a structure that is both strong and flexible enough to withstand simulated shaking. Through this hands-on challenge, the students learned how real engineers use geometric shapes, like triangles, to create stable foundations.

This practical task is an excellent way to introduce young learners to the basic principles of physics and engineering. Swipe to see our students carefully assembling their designs. 📐
