Educating Global Citizens
Our consistent focus for students is on high academic standards, essential life skills and a sense of responsibility to the community all within the framework of a ‘family like’ atmosphere. We also ensure that each student receives the educational support they need while being challenged to extend themselves according to their individual potential.
As an international school we pride ourselves on the family atmosphere and culturally diverse community we have created here in Surabaya. We make a conscious effort to hold events that offer our community the opportunity to come together in wide range of sporting, artistic, intellectual and cultural activities. In addition to cultivating a sense of belonging, this allows our students to explore their creativity and imagination and gain confidence in expressing themselves.
SES celebrates the sporting, cultural, social and charitable activities of our school community. Providing our students with opportunities for fitness, sport, artistic expression as well as a supportive social environment is a very important part of their holistic development. We appreciate the extensive efforts of our teachers and parents in providing a well-rounded experience. Check out our Instagram feed…
Students are diving into an insightful classroom activity that clearly illustrates how the heart works. They are constructing a simple model to mimic the essential action of blood circulating throughout the body.
Using water dyed a deep red, students can physically observe and interact with the mechanics of the cardiovascular system. This hands-on, practical lesson is expertly designed to make complex biological functions accessible and engaging for everyone.
It’s a superb example of how interactive experiments cement a solid understanding of human anatomy.

Learning maths has never been this exciting! Our students took part in Math on the Move, an engaging hands-on activity where they rounded numbers to the nearest hundred while moving around the classroom.
Working in pairs, students explored, discussed, and solved each clue with teamwork and enthusiasm. Every step was filled with curiosity, focus, and laughter as they applied their mental maths skills in real situations.
This active approach not only strengthened their understanding but also encouraged collaboration and critical thinking. At Surabaya European School, learning goes beyond the desk — it’s an adventure of discovery and fun!

Building strong foundations in numeracy is a joy to watch in this classroom. Our students have been getting to grips with addition, understanding it as the process of “combining two sets” to make a whole. Using tangible resources like counters and part-whole models helps to bring these abstract numerical ideas to life in a way they can see and touch.
It was wonderful to see so many confident students eager to come to the front and demonstrate their counting skills to their friends. From careful one-to-one counting to super-fast mental maths, every student is celebrated for their progress and growing confidence.
